The purpose of a problem statement in a research is primarily to provide an introduction to the reader of the research to the importance of the subject matter being studied in the research. The reader will get a better understanding the significance of the research. Secondly is to provide the context to the problem that is being investigated. This is important for the reader to understand in which parameters of the subject matter is being investigated. Thirdly it provides structure for reporting of the results of the research. It provides a glimpse into how the findings will be explain and presented to the reader.
The problem statement is important to set the stage and context for the reader to understand about the research that is being conducted.
