To explain the role of theory in research we must understand the key function or the upmost basis of a theory initially. Theory can be classified as a set of principles on which the practise of a research is based on. Hence, theory is also considered an idea used to register a situation or justify a course of action in a research. As per my understanding theory is a collection of propositions to illustrate the principles of a research. For example, theory is used in describing what is supposed to happen or be possible, usually with the implication that it does not in fact happen like just an idea that lives in someone’s head, rather than an explanation rooted in experiment and testing. Theories usually introduced or included in research to explain a certain phenomenon, which able to draw connections and make predictions. In conclusion, the role of theory in a research is to define the key concept of the respective research by evaluating and combine relevant theories and models to explain the assumptions and expectations that guides a research.
