Theories are systems or concepts formulated out of explanation and ideas that came from observation and understanding. Therefore it acts as a base that provides meaning to a specific research, and help design a research question.
In conducting research, theory helps to provide guidelines by pointing out areas that are most likely to be realistic and fruitful, so that we are able to convert those into practical actions to fulfill our researches, such as developing data collection and tool, or even built into a framework for our research data analysis.
In order to strengthen our research, theoretical framework used in research must be relevant to the research problem we are investigating. Articulating the theoretical assumptions of a research study forces you to maneuver within the scope of variables and generalization, so that we do not go off track.
