No doubt there are lots of benefits in using Facebook or other socmed, we all aware about the advantages. However, it is slowly becoming a taboo to talk against about it. We will be labelled as anti-technology, boomers and resistant to change.

Facebook or any other socmed are convenient and useful to keep distant connection closer but as a price, made existing physical closer connection, distant.

To elaborate the above statement, Facebook is indeed very convenient to get people to keeping in touch with distant people and feed us with tonnes of information on daily basis, but it is also defeating the purpose of human existence.

As a human, we tend to look for convenience. We have so much thing to do but with limited time. We have insufficient time to meet up with people physically, it is way convenient, cheaper and faster to “meet” online. We would eventually shift to this “unreal” virtual reality, addictive world, and as a price we will tend to lose real identity, personality and physical presence are no longer a necessity.

This might go off course, but during this pandemic period, there has been significant high rate of divorce in Malaysia. [Ref 1] “Almost 78,000 divorces were recorded nationwide since the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak began last year, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob”. I would say this is happening because most of us are unable or do not know how to deal with “real, physical” people who are close/important to us.
